Tour destination

MALLORCA - SPAIN

Once of the four main Balearic Islands, Mallorca sits just off the eastern coast of mainland Spain. The island has long been a favourite destination for cycling enthusiasts, especially among road cyclists, with kilometres of secluded roads to ride along the coastline as well as high up into the hills and mountains. Spots such as Sa Calobra and Cap de Formentor are on many riders’ bucket lists, and the locals are even used to seeing professional teams training here off-season. Time your trip well and you might just be able to catch them speeding past!

  • Weather

Thanks to its prime location in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, Mallorca has a wonderfully pleasant climate with mild sunny winters and hot and humid summers. It is a fantastic year-round location for cycling, especially during the off season, when you can avoid the crowds, enjoy quieter roads and cycle all day long without having to avoid the midday heat.

  • Terrain

Mallorca is home to almost every type of terrain there is. From smooth flat roads with views over the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, to winding routes that snake gently up through the mountains, Mallorca has it all. The Serra de Tramuntana is Mallorca’s main mountain ridge and features the world famous Sa Calobra descent, with hairpin bends and sea views. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is a magnet for walkers, hikers and cyclists all year round.

  • Culture

Palma is Mallorca’s lively capital city located on the south coast of the island. It is packed with buzzing bars and restaurants on every corner, as well as shops, large open squares and beautiful architecture. Visit the Cathedral and its watchtower, take a stroll around the ancient Jewish quarter or head to the Arab baths to see one of the greatest legacies of Moorish architecture on the whole island.

Your guide to a perfect cycling tour

Palma to Colonia de Sant Jordi
  • Distance
    84 km

Today’s route:

  • Palma to Colonia de Sant Jordi

Distance: 84 km

On Day 2 the route begins by heading south-east from Ca’n Pastilla along the cycle path that borders the Bay of Palma with views out across the Mediterranean Sea. After a while you’ll start to ride inland through the countryside, along rural lanes flanked by almond trees, before a short ascent to the Santuari de Cura where you’ll enjoy incredible panoramic views.

The route descends from here and continues to head inland towards Llucmajor, before climbing again to the Santuari de Monti-Sion just outside the village of Porreres. This is the last stop for today before riding back towards the coast to Colonia de Sant Jordi and the stunning Es Trenc beach, almost on the southernmost tip of the island.
