Tour destination

Corsica

Corsica is a Mediterranean island located 160 kilometres south of mainland France. With only a few miles separating it from the island of Sardinia, it is actually closer to Italy than France. The Treaty of Versailles attached Corsica to France in 1768, dubbed "l'île de la beauté" (the island of beauty). Corsica has its own language, which is still spoken and taught in schools. Inland, there are mountains, the highest of which is Monte Cinto. Tourism is the most important industry, followed by wine, fruit, and dairy production. The beautiful scenery and warm seas make this a popular tourist destination. The beaches and crystal clear sea water are ideal for relaxing and the views for sports like cycling.

  • Weather

In Corsica Island, the summers are short, warm and mostly clear and the winters are quite a bit longer, colder, more windy, and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 3 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius.

  • Terrain

For the most part, the terrain of Corsica is mountainous. About two-thirds of it consists of an ancient crystalline massif that divides the island on a northwest-to-southeast axis. Corsica has a cluster of 20 peaks exceeding 6,500 feet (2,000 metres). Mount Cinto sits at an elevation of 8,890 feet (2,710 metres).

  • Culture

Corsica is an island of culture with an abundance of music, art and cultural festivals which are organised by volunteers who are passionate about their chosen interest. Many of the island's villages also hold a festival to celebrate its local crafts and produce, as well as religious or historical events.
