Tour destination

Andorra

A climbing paradise and cycling's best-kept secret. Andorra is a popular destination for professional cycling teams, so why not add it to your list? Andorra is located in the heart of the Pyrenees. So going col hunting here is ideal. Many mountain passes have famous names and have been featured on Grand Tours. The Tour de France is famous for its "queen stages," and the fate of the yellow jersey has been decided here far too many times!

  • Weather

Andorra has a typical mountain climate, with cold winters and mild summers. It is extremely dry and has numerous days of sunshine. Autumn is the wetter season, and winter brings snow, which is popular with skiers but difficult for cyclists. Pack your belongings in accordance with the season.

  • Terrain

Mountains. Rough terrain with numerous climbs. It's no coincidence that this tour is called the Legendary Climbs Cycling Tour! Pass through narrow gorges and gaze out over breathtaking valleys – the Andorra terrain is mystical and enchanting, ideal for climbers.

  • Culture

The region of Andorra is heavily influenced by Roman culture. Catalan culture is distinct from the rest of Spain, and you will notice it. The mountains play an important role in the way of life. And, fortunately for us, cycling is a popular sport here.

Arcalís Andorra

Arcalis is a fairly gentle climb for the most part. The first 6km are little more than false flat. From here, there are a few steeper gradients, but it is mostly steady and easy to settle into a comfortable rhythm. This is a great warm up and leg stretch for taking on the heavier climbs.

Your guide to a perfect cycling tour

Stage 1 – COMELLA - ENGOLASTERS - CORTALS - ORDINO
  • Distance
    64 km
  • Altitude gain
    2060 m

We’ll wake up in good spirits after our first night in Andorra la Vella to begin exploring the fantastic landscapes of the so-called Pyrenees Country.

The route will begin with three beautiful ascents that will take us to 2,093 metres of altitude, the highest point of this third stage. After a short ascent to Alt de la Comella, the road will harden to take us to Alt d’Engolasters and its dam, which was built to supply water to the hydroelectric power station, which supplies 20% of the country’s electricity.

We will enjoy the views and the calm waters at this mandatory stop. Following that, we’ll ride a short gravel section to the difficult ramps of today’s first major objective, Cortals d’Encamp, a special category port that served as the end of the stage in the 2015 and 2019 Tour de France.

To round out the stage, we’ll climb to Coll d’Ordino, possibly Andorra’s most beautiful port. Before the final descent to our comfortable hotel, the spectacular Mirador del Roc de Quer will amaze us with a 360 ° panoramic view of the Encamp valley and nearby peaks.
