It is easy to mistake Spain as not being a cycling destination but being that it is home to a host of professional cycling races. For La Vuelta Espana, we have an amazing viewing tour for every year where you can ride over 3000 m of elevation, covering 350km of beautiful roads, all whilst following the tour and watching the pro cyclists fly past or grind up the mountains. Spain’s labyrinth of inland roads, soaring mountain peaks and rolling hills as far as the eye can see are perfect for a cycling holiday. It is the reason why many cyclists choose this country as the ultimate adventure playground, especially Girona, the home of pro cycling. No matter which region or route you choose, you are bound to end up riding through wonderfully preserved ancient stone villages, along quiet country roads flanked by vast vineyards or beside the glistening Mediterranean Sea. There really is something to suit every riding style, discipline and fitness level.

The Balearic and Canary Islands are also fantastic locations for riding. Mallorca in particular is a firm favourite among professionals and amateurs alike, with legendary climbs such as Sa Calobra bringing cyclists flocking to the island every year. It is potentially the hardest climb on the island and has proved to be an excellent training ground for professionals such as Bradley Wiggens, who was seen preparing for the 2012 Tour de France on this mighty ascent.

Catalonia in the northeast of Spain is also another epic location for cycling. Home to the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, it is also alive with cyclists and cycling culture, the epicentre of which is undoubtedly Girona. This mediaeval town is a paradise for cyclists and many cycling teams and brands now call this charming place home. The surrounding countryside also offers endless opportunities for road cycling, with classic climbs such as Els Angels and Rocacorba just a few kilometres from the city centre.
