Flying in:

Lyon, France

Start point:

Collioure

Flying out:

Toulouse, France

End point:

This guided French Pyrenees Gran Traverse Tour alternates between the legendary cols from the Tour de France and the lesser-known passes while cycling the superb mountain roads through the Pyrenees. This guided tour offers the chance to take in the diverse landscapes from the Pyrénées Orientales to the dense forests of Ariège and jagged peaks of the Hautes-Pyrénées.

Lucious green and peaked mountain tops really make this itinerary a stand out winner for cycle enthusiasts to test their skills and explore the Pyrenees region.

Over the 8 days, you will push your riding limits to the max, add 700km to your mileage, and more than 16,000 meters on your legs. This tour is not for the faint hearted.

Highlights of your trip

Legendary Routes

This itinerary covers a whole range of rides and routes, some that are included in the Tour de France and others that are off the beaten track - but still with excellent tarmac! Take on the challenge of the Pyrenees Passes.

All Meals Included

Across the 8 days, all your meals are catered for. Kick start your day with breakfast, enjoy a picnic lunch en route, and wind down with a 3 or 4-course dinner. All hotels are a 2* or 3* standard with secure bike storage.

Breathtaking Views

As you cycle you can take in the jaw-dropping views of the Pyrenees mountain range, an incredible backdrop from every angle. Dramatic and breathtaking - these panoramics make the climbs worth it.

Destination

Destination

French Pyrenees

The Pyrenees mountain range runs as a barrier between France and Spain, stretching from the Mediterranean coast to the Atlantic. The height and rugged landscapes of these mountain roads make them a challenging alternative to the more popular routes in the Alps. Segments are part of the Tour de France, but there are plenty of lesser-known rides to discover another side of France.

Weather

Spring to Autumn offers the best weather conditions for mild riding in the mountains and warm sun on your back. Coastal regions are prone to blustery winds coming off the ocean. Winter months are challenging with snowfall blocking the higher cols as early as October.

Terrain

France offers an incredibly diverse range of terrain suitable for almost any level of rider. However, this tour through the Pyrenees is challenging with some intense climbs through the alpine mountains. Be prepared for tackling up to 3000m altitude gains and averaging 100km daily.

Culture

France has a strong cycling culture across the country which is highlighted in the mountains with the superb roads and Tour de France influence. Bicycle touring is a popular way to explore France and welcomed in all of the rural areas. Drivers are courteous and locals are friendly.
