TAKE ON THE LEGENDARY PEAKS AT YOUR OWN PACE

The Spanish side of the Pyrenees offers everything road cyclists are looking for: quiet roads, challenging mountain passes, perfect scenery with beautiful lights, and highlights such as the Mallos de Riglos. From Saint Jean de Luz in the French Basque country, this road cycling trip crosses the Spanish Pyrenees and their provinces of Aragon and Catalunya. Enjoy 9 days and reach the lovely town of Collioure on the Mediterranean coast. The route is peppered with winding roads in the foothills of the Pyrenees as well as “real” puertos (cols), especially at the foot of the legendary Pyrenean peaks.

In contrast to the classic French Pyrenees Traversée, this crossing is a more accessible and slightly less challenging opportunity to discover the beauty of the Pyrenees. The landscapes are drier and rockier, the vegetation more Mediterranean than in the French part; in the heart of the famous “Sierras”, expect deep gorges and beautiful rocky crags to feast your eyes. On top of that, enjoy typical culinary delights and very good local cuisine after challenging days in the saddle.

All distances and gains mentioned are at an all-round level. Each day you will have the opportunity to push your rides harder, adding additional routes while keeping with the group itinerary.

Destination

Pyrenees - Spain

Stretching from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea across Spain to the Bay of Biscay, the Pyrenees are some of the most impressive mountains in the world. Once you've been here once, you will want to keep coming back. The sharp peaks rise high into the clouds, acting as a natural border between neighbouring countries. This mountain range reaches up to a staggering 3,404 metres which give the perfect opportunity for hill climb training.

Weather

You must be well prepared for the season in the Pyrenees. The climate is moderate with no excessive heat, highs reaching around 15 degrees. You will be exposed to typical mountain weather with mostly sunny conditions and clear skies. Winter months can see snow and get close to 0 degrees.

Terrain

A mix of fearsome and inviting terrain — there is something for everyone here. Take on the rugged terrain of the mountains for a real test of your fitness and skills, or opt for the more gentle passes and explore the area.

Culture

The Spanish Pyrenees region has an incredibly rich culture. There are 7 languages in the area, including Catalan — the mother language of over 5 million people. History courses through the land and the people are proud to share it with visitors and tourists.
