THE HEART OF SPAIN

Castile is home to some of the most beautiful and monumental cities in Europe. On this tour, we visit some of the most famous sites in the area: Segovia & Ávila, along with Felipe II’s immense monastery and residence El Escorial. Sights include the magnificent Roman aqueduct in Segovia and the impressive city walls of the fortified city of Ávila. Rivalling the spectacle of these cities are the landscapes, ranging from the endless horizons of the plains of Castile to the dramatic beauty of the Sierra de Gredos mountains as we head towards El Escorial and Madrid.

Destination

CASTILE - SPAIN

This is one of the destinations which offers the greatest diversity of natural landscapes in Europe, as well as spectacular monuments, varied and abundant gastronomy… all these guarantees that this region in the interior of Spain is bound to delight you. It has a whole host of places which are well worth visiting, including towns like Avila, Salamanca and Segovia (all three World Heritage Cities) and unique attractions such as Burgos Cathedral and the Atapuerca archaeological site, which contains traces of the first settlers in Europe. The famous Way of Saint James also runs through the Castile-León region and is one of the world's most important pilgrim routes.

Weather

Castile's central region promises the glorious climate that Spain is famous for. Think mid to high 20-degree Celsius for the summer, and mild and welcoming winters. More towards the northern region can be more unpredictable, however further south will provide better consistency.

Terrain

Ride the gentle, rolling roads through historic cities. Climb challenging mountain tarmac, carving through Parque regional de la Sierra de Gredos. Here, you can experience a variety, and expect nothing short of amazing.

Culture

Spain's raw history runs deep in Castile. The iconic towns and cities are representative of medieval Spain. Even the Castillian language and dialect is unique to this area. All of this is waiting to be discovered.
