Join us for a week of riding at the fantastic La Bruguera de Pubol – a luxury eco-estate at the base of the Gavarres Hills, 15km outside of Girona, Catalonia. With the incredible culture, rich cuisine, and variety of terrain to discover, it’s no wonder as to why this region is a hotspot and world capital for professional cyclists.

Explore routes and trails directly from the accommodation base camp. You will have the opportunity to ride a variety of terrains, from traffic-free dirt tracks to gravel coastal roads. At the end of each day, you can make use of the heated swimming pool, massage rooms, and yoga studio to completely unwind.

The guided routes we explore are a mix of road and hybrid terrain, perfect for challenging your riding.

Breakfast Included

La Bruguera de Pubol's week package includes a breakfast every morning - perfect to get you ready for a full day of cycling. Fruit and veg are supplied by the onsite organic gardens. It doesn't get any fresher than this! You can add on extra dinners, or choose to explore the nearby local restaurants.

GIRONA - The cycling mecca

What makes Girona area outstanding first of all is it’s variety of terrain and incredibly diverse scenery. To the North Pyrenees set the scene – by allowing you to find just any type of climb you are looking for without needing to go many miles of just approaching the climb. Same time, you can still reach out to the East and find yourself on famous Mediterranian gem which is Costa Brava – stretch of coast ripped with calas or small bays and rocks hanging above the blue sea. It boasts maybe the best coastal stretch of cyclable road there is, with almost no traffic. Besides that, just in every other direction you will find some rolling hills, lakes and towns all ties together in endless network of empty secondary roads network that is maintained in excellent condition.

Weather

Catalonia offers lots of that Spanish sun. With that, being up North of the peninsula, you'll get fresher rides during spring and autumn months as you can feel the proximity of the Pyrenees. Make sure you grab your gilet for some wind and rain protection for those unlucky days. And bring sun cream for those warmer days and stay protected.

Terrain

North of Catalonia is marked by the Pyrenees and very much all of the upper parts of the country is the mountainous foothills that are pretty high and steep. Сombined with perfect road networks, this makes a real cycling paradise, especially for climbing. But the key advantage is the diversity. Right from Girona you have few world class loops with decent climbing but you can also manage to get a fairly flattish ride if that's what you are looking for.

Culture

Catalan culture, despite being less renowned than it’s more famous Spanish cousin, boasts a huge history as well as its own unique traditions and cuisine. Take the time to discover some authentic Catalan traditions, as well as those well known Spanish ones, to make your trip to Catalonia even better. And of course, cycling is big deal here. La Vuelta has a Catalan root. And there is La Vuelta a Catalunya as well. And yes, an insane amount of people are cycling for sport.

A luxurious oasis in the heart of Catalonia Spain. La Bruguera is a stunning eco-resort that will make your week getaway as comfortable as it could possibly be. Standard rooms are twin shares, however, you can opt for a single room for an extra fee.

Facilities include a heated swimming pool, massage/treatment rooms, yoga studio, organic gardens, and access to epic cycle trails right from the gate.

This route takes you east by the river Ter across the relatively flat Emporda region to Rustik cafe, one of the favourite food stops for cyclists in the region. The food and coffee are fantastic, the fruit and yoghurt bowls are a work of art and as the village bakery, you know the pastries aren’t going to disappoint either. Note that it is closed on Wednesdays and closes daily at 1.30 pm, but it’s less than 2 hours ride from Girona so you should get there in time for some great food and chat. Alternative food stops are in the main square in Verges and it’s worth a detour on the way home to Doskiwis brewery in Rupia, a great place for weekend food and incredible beer, and often live music. This route is suitable for road bikes with 28mm tyres, but take a few spare tubes!
