INCREDIBLY SMOOTH ROADS AND SPECTACULAR ALPINE MOUNTAIN PASSES

Switzerland has a lot to offer. The roads are incredibly smooth and plentiful, carving through inviting Alpine mountain passes with flawless slopes. With every hairpin, you discover new vistas of incredible mountain sceneries, in which giant glaciers, staggering summits, lakes, pastures and villages have been arranged by an invisible, but well-organised, hand.

On this 6-day trip, we ride across the Swiss Alps from east to west, from Lake Como in Italy to the French shore of Lake Geneva. We cross the main Alpine chain and the cantons of Ticino, Grisons, the Berner Oberland, Valais and Vaud. We climb 12 major mountain cols and their typical postcard-like landscapes, among which Splügen, San Bernadino, Lukmanier, Oberalp, Gotthard, Nufenen, Furka and Susten.

The highlight of the trip is our ride up to Grosse Scheidegg, with its small road winding under huge rock faces and its summit panorama of the big three: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. When we arrive in Thonon-les-Bains, we will have covered 650 km and 14,000 m of vertical gain. We will discover the varied facets of the Swiss valleys and taste many local specialities including rösti, älplermagronen, zibelechueche, tuorta da nusch… This is a truly mind-blowing trip.

Legendary Cols

Ride and discover legendary cols, including Col du Juan and Col du Corbier. Everybody who calls themselves a cyclist enthusiast should take on these mountain roads at least once in their lifetime.

Weather

You must be well prepared for the season in Switzerland. The climate is moderate with no excessive heat, cold or humidity. From July to August the daytime temperature range is 18 to 28 °C, and from January to February, the range is -2 to 7 °C. In spring and autumn, the daytime temperature range is a comfortable 8 to 15 °C. The higher you go, the colder the temperatures will get.

Terrain

Switzerland is famous for its mountainous region in The Alps. These roads offer sharp climbs and challenging terrain, perfect for training and those wanting to push their riding up a level. North of the Swiss Alps is the Swiss Plateau region. Here you will find rolling hills and flatland.

Culture

The Swiss are well known for their friendly and welcoming nature. The alpine region is extremely outdoors-oriented with hiking, trekking, skiing, and cycling at the heart of the nation. Switzerland is incredibly diverse with language, culture, and customs.

All the hotels along the route are in a comfortable 2-3* range. They are all well-positioned for the start and end of day riding, complete with secure bike storage.

A support vehicle will be assisting you for the entire trip, moving your bags between the locations and ensuring you can fully relax after reaching the next stop.

Rendezvous with the organisation team at 9 am at Chiavenna Townhall. On request, we can book the previous night’s accommodation for you in Chiavenna. We can also organise a transfer from Milano or Torino airport before the trip.

Highlights:

The very long climb up the Splügen Pass: 1,800 m of vertical gain. As a reward, the pretty Montespluga lake, surrounded by
pastures and dominated by mineral summits.
The San Bernardino pass with its small lakes and glacial ridges, before reaching the magnificent mountain lake of Moesola, surrounded by 3,000 m peaks
